We are off on holidays tomorrow morning, for our annual trip to Palm Cove. We go at the same time every year, with my parents, sister, friends of ours and their gorgeous little twin girls. It's great travelling with other families, because we all do dinner nice and early, the kids play together (ages spanning from 2 - 10), and we can even alternate the odd babysitting night with each other to allow for a romantic dinner.
I don't imagine that I'll post while we're away, but I'll be sure to take lots of pictures! I have just looked back at the holiday photos from this time last year, and it's crazy to see how much she's grown (not to mention the fact that she's now a completely talking, opinionated little girl, as opposed to a teeny little toddler).
Here is Tabitha the first year she came with us:
The second year she came:
And here she is, now, 'helping' me pack (in reality, trying to wear all of her holiday clothes, bathers, sunglasses and accessories at once):
We have bought a 'Trunki', one of those cute little children's carry-on suitcases that you can pull along, while they have a ride. It is packed full of toys and a couple of snacks for the plane (3.5 hours), and Tabitha is incredibly excited about having her 'own' suitcase. It can carry up to 50kg of weight, so in theory two little kids can happily sit on it and have a ride. I picked one up cheaply from Peters of Kensington, and I think it will be a fun and useful item this holiday!

How cute are the trunkis!! I wish G was old enough for one... As it is we have enough stuff to carry around on this trip... But when she's older for sure we'll get one. Which one does Tabby have?
Sounds like a wonderful trip you have planned. I hope you have an amazing time.

We went with the red ladybird - it's pretty cute! They actually fit a decent amount of stuff in them, and because they are hard, you can put more delicate carryon items in them. I think from about 2 is probably okay, age-wise, before then they wouldn't be tall enough to sit on with their legs on the floor.
Hope Europe is going well - I think G is the exact same age T was when we did America, and it was brilliant, so I'm sure you're all having a ball!
Have a wonderful trip - any tips you have for entertaining a toddler on a plane would be appreciated! I desperately need a holiday but the thought of taking a 20 month old on a plane is freaking me out.
such a big girl now! xxx
Hmm it's a tricky one Alison - so much depends on the age and personality of the child! A few months ago, when T was just 2 and under, I would have been filled with dread, and my plan would have included snacks and a whole lot of finger crossing (we flew to Tassie when she was around 19 months and even the short flight was fairly trying!)
BUT having said that, Tabitha is a real wriggle worm, and many kids of that age are much better on a plane. Now, and I'd say from about 2 onwards, it's been much easier, and even the 3.5 hour flight was okay. What worked for us? Stickers (you can get special sticker books with hundreds of stickers and 'scene' pages to stick them to, these are a winner), snacks (low GI recommended to avoid sudden bursts of energy!) and an iPad! Just in the past couple of months, Tabitha has fallen madly in love with Peppa Pig (started by a particularly dismal few days on the couch when we were both ill). Peppa Pig is still a treat for Tabby (normally just 10 mins of Peppa per day), so having pretty much a free-for-all on the plane was a big hit. We bought special headphones for kids which don't go too loud, they were only $30 or something from Big W.
I say, give it a go, you never know otherwise! It might be a dream!
Yep FF she is positively grown up. It is actually quite terrifying, and I am equally terrified of having the new baby, since it seems like SO long ago that I had a newborn. What are you supposed to do with them again?! I can't remember a thing!
