Home Alone

The Daddy left at around 5am this morning to go to Tasmania to play golf for a couple of days.  He snuck out very quietly and didn't wake us up - although Tabitha woke up with the birds at 5:50am anyway!

At 9am this morning, we trekked over to the local pool to enroll Tabitha for swimming next year.  No kidding, it is a ridiculous ordeal - I know women who've been phoning for months trying to get their children enrolled, and they keep getting told 'there are no places left'.  Well, I thought it all sounded a bit fishy, so I called and spoke to someone a few weeks ago, and just kept asking and pushing until I got a straight answer - which went something like this:

Me - "So please tell me how I can enroll my daughter in swimming for 2011."
Him - "Sorry we don't have any dates or schedules for next year.  Try again later in the year."
Me - "Can you please tell me the exact date you will have timetables?"
Him - pause.  "We will have the schedule on Monday 20th December. Thank you, bye!"
Me - "Wait!!  So if I call on Monday 20th December, can I enroll my daughter?"
Him - "No, we don't take enrollments over the phone, only in person."
Me - "Okay.  We're getting somewhere!  So if I show up AT THE POOL on Monday 20th December, can I enroll in swimming for 2011?"
Him - "Yes.  Oh and I suggest getting here at 9am, the places fill fast."

PHEW!  So down we went, enrolled for 2011, Tabitha is a Shrimp, which is ages 6 months - 18 months.  I'm sure she will make a very cute shrimp!  And I have nearly two months to build up the courage to be seen in public in bathers - at least they will all be other mummies!

In the afternoon, Tabitha and I went to have lunch with my mother, sister and cousin Juliette at Fiorelli's in Camberwell.  They have excellent calamari and chocolate souffle.  Tabitha ate some bread.  Yes, I know her diet is sounding really boring - but every time she actually ingests anything much, she vomits.  I ran this by my MCHN and she reassured me that this is perfectly fine - Tabitha's body will work out the food thing soon enough.  And in the meantime, she reminded me, she is getting all the nutrition that she needs from breastmilk, and it is fine if she doesn't eat anything much for the next few months - she will eat when she's ready!

I wonder if she can try some Christmas pudding?  Probably not, since it contains a lot of cognac!  Such a shame...

This evening, my friend has come over to keep me company while The Daddy is away.  She brought Thai food from my favourite Thai restaurant, Sukhumvit.  DVDs, relationship advice, gossip.  Good evening!
